The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 248 suspects involved in various criminal activities across the state between April 20 and May 20, 2026, as part of intensified security operations aimed at sustaining peace and public safety.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, where he reviewed the security situation and operational achievements of the Command over the past month.

According to him, although Kano State remains relatively peaceful, the Command recorded incidents of violent crimes and social disturbances in areas including Fagge, IBB Road, and Hotoro Quarters, as well as security concerns along the Kano-Katsina border.

He explained that the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies under the Joint Task Force, adopted new operational strategies involving intelligence-led policing, targeted raids, increased patrols, and wider deployment of personnel to troubled areas and border communities.

Bakori stated that the operations led to the arrest of 18 armed robbery suspects, five suspected kidnappers, 32 suspected drug dealers, 12 motor vehicle thieves, 11 tricycle thieves, six motorcycle thieves, 15 suspected thieves, and 149 suspects linked to violent public disturbances.

The Commissioner also revealed that three kidnapped victims were rescued safely and reunited with their families during the period under review.

He further listed several recovered items, including firearms, locally made weapons, dangerous objects, illicit drugs, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, mobile phones, and SIM cards.

The Police Commissioner said all suspects are currently under investigation and would be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.

Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and community-oriented policing in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

“The Violent Crime Response Unit had remained active in responding swiftly to cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state”, He said.

The Commissioner commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, sister security agencies, and residents of the state for their support and cooperation in maintaining security.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring residents that Kano State would remain hostile to criminal activities.
