Mohamed Salah’s reported move from Liverpool to Turkish club Trabzonspor has sparked excitement among fans and boosted the club’s popularity, with the Egyptian football star attracting renewed attention to the northern Turkish city.

Trabzonspor hosted a derby against Besiktas on Monday, October 26, 2026, bringing together two prominent Turkish football clubs. Besiktas had reportedly been in talks to sign Salah before Trabzonspor secured his services.

Salah, one of Egypt’s most internationally recognised footballers, is reportedly enjoying a fresh chapter in his career following his departure from Liverpool, with supporters in Trabzon embracing his presence.

Across the city, vendors have displayed Salah-themed merchandise and artwork in Trabzonspor’s traditional maroon and light-blue colours, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding the player.

Local vendors, tourism professionals and visitors said Salah’s arrival was drawing attention to the city and improving the club’s public profile, with some tourists reportedly travelling to Trabzon because of the footballer.

Local media reports also indicated that Trabzonspor’s social media accounts gained one million new followers following the reported signing, highlighting the scale of interest in the Egyptian international.

The development comes as direct flights between Cairo and Trabzon were launched in August 2026, potentially making travel between Egypt and the Turkish city more convenient.

Salah’s reported transfer has therefore generated interest beyond football, with supporters and tourism businesses looking to benefit from the attention surrounding the Egyptian star.
