The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has urged its members to put into practice the photography and videography skills acquired during a two-day capacity-building programme sponsored by MATASHIYA TV Kano.
The association’s Chairperson, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, made the appeal after the completion of the training, which brought together more than 50 women journalists and focused on strengthening their capacity in visual storytelling, digital journalism and content creation.
She said the knowledge gained would improve the quality of media practice and enable participants to produce more compelling visual content in their respective newsrooms.
“We encourage all participants to apply the knowledge and practical skills acquired during the training in their daily professional activities. This will not only enhance their productivity but also contribute to improving the quality of journalism,” Kabara said.

The chairperson commended MATASHIYA TV Kano for sponsoring the training and appreciated the resource persons for sharing practical knowledge with participants.
She specifically acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Ashir Tahir of Bayero University, Kano, Malam Muhammad Sani Maikatanga and the Chief Executive Officer of MATASHIYA TV, Alhaji Abubakar Murtala, describing their support as instrumental to the success of the programme.
Kabara also appealed to government institutions, development partners, media organisations and other stakeholders to invest more in professional development opportunities for women journalists.
According to her, regular training and retraining are essential to promoting ethical journalism, strengthening professional competence and improving media practice in Kano State.
“Supporting women journalists with continuous training is an investment in quality journalism and responsible reporting. We call on relevant stakeholders to sustain such initiatives,” she added.
The association assured the organisers that participants would effectively utilise the knowledge acquired to improve photography, videography and digital storytelling while advancing professional standards within the media industry.
NAWOJ also expressed gratitude to MATASHIYA TV Kano and the facilitators for the successful programme and prayed for continued success in their future initiatives.
