The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has formally received three prominent political figures, Ibrahim Shekarau, Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, and Yahaya Umar Bagobiri, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the Kano APC chapter after a formal reception held in Shekarau’s Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

The event drew party leaders and supporters, marking a significant political development in the state.

Shekarau, a former two-term governor of Kano State and one-time Minister of Education under Goodluck Jonathan, was presented with his APC membership card at the ceremony.

His return to the APC is seen as a major boost, given his longstanding influence in Kano politics and his experience in governance and public service.

Also joining the party is former senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, who represented Kano North Senatorial District for four consecutive terms between 1999 and 2015.

Known for his role as Senate Chief Whip during the 7th National Assembly, Gwarzo built a reputation for his command of legislative processes.

The third entrant, Yahaya Umar Bagobiri, is a veteran grassroots mobilizer with decades of involvement in party administration at both state and national levels.

His political résumé includes key roles in earlier political parties and coordination of major presidential campaigns, notably those of Atiku Abubakar.

In its statement, the APC described the trio’s defection as a consolidation of political experience and grassroots strength ahead of future elections.

The party noted that their combined expertise from public administration to legislative affairs, would enhance policy development and governance.

The APC also linked the move to the broader leadership direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the party’s national agenda continues to attract influential figures across the country.

State party chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa assured the new members of full integration and equal opportunities within party structures.

He called on supporters to welcome the defectors and work collectively toward strengthening the party’s position in Kano.

Political observers say the development could reshape alliances in Kano State, with the entry of three established figures likely to influence party dynamics and electoral strategies in the coming years.
