The Nigerian Government has dismissed a document circulating online, allegedly written by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and addressed to Liberia’s Foreign Minister, describing it as false and unauthorised.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the ministry said the letter did not originate from any official government platform or recognised diplomatic channel.
The ministry explained that the document, which reportedly referenced comments linked to a Nigerian religious figure, was fabricated and intended to mislead the public while creating unnecessary tension between Nigeria and Liberia.
It stated that an initial review of the letter revealed inconsistencies with standard diplomatic procedures and official communication formats, further proving that it was not genuine.
The ministry therefore advised members of the public, media organisations and stakeholders to disregard the document and refrain from circulating unverified materials capable of causing confusion or affecting bilateral relations.
It added that relevant authorities and security agencies had been informed and were working to trace the individuals behind the fraudulent publication.
“Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to professional diplomacy, transparency and responsible international engagement, the ministry assured the Liberian government and citizens of Nigeria’s continued friendship, cooperation and goodwill”.
The government also urged the public to rely on verified sources for official information and avoid spreading materials that could undermine diplomatic relationships.
