The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has commiserated with the government and people of Jigawa State and the royal family of Gumel Emirate over the death of the late Emir, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.
Adeniyi, who was represented by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Usman Adamu, conveyed his condolences during the funeral prayer held at the Gumel Emirate Palace on Friday.
Adamu described the death of the late emir as a great loss to Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State and Nigeria, noting his long years of service to his people and contributions to peace, unity and development.
He said the late traditional ruler would also be remembered for his support for the Nigeria Customs Service and other government agencies operating within his domain, particularly in safeguarding the nation’s borders and promoting legitimate trade.

“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Gumel and the government and people of Jigawa State,” Adamu said.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family, subjects and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
The funeral prayer was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the governors of Jigawa and Kano states, traditional rulers, government officials and thousands of mourners from within and outside the state.
The late Emir was reported to have spent 46 years on the throne, making his reign one of the longest in the history of the Gumel Emirate.
