Kano women paid advocacy visits to several federal lawmakers, including Hon. Ali Sani Madakin Gini (Dala), Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa (Doguwa), Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Tudun Wada), and Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe (Tofa/Dawakin Tofa).

Representing a broad coalition of women’s organisations, among them FIDA, NCWS, NAWOJ, AWITA, FOMWAN, WAWICAN, and NILOWV alongside are female aspirants and other stakeholders, the group underscored the urgent need for more inclusive governance.

During the engagements, the advocates urged the lawmakers to fast-track the passage of the proposed bill, stressing that women play indispensable roles in society, particularly in mobilising and sustaining electoral processes.

They argued that increasing women’s presence in legislative bodies would promote more balanced decision-making and strengthen democratic governance overall.

Key contributors to the discussions included NAWOJ Kano Chairperson Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, ARTV Kano Managing Director Hajiya Hauwa Abdullahi, Hajiya Gambo, and Malama Habiba of FOMWAN.

Each emphasised the importance of expanding political opportunities for women and ensuring their voices are better represented in governance.
