NAWOJ Kano Celebrates Veteran Broadcaster Galadanchi, Hails New Foundation

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Kano State chapter, has praised the organisers of a special reception and award ceremony held in honour of veteran broadcaster Mariya Galadanci describing the event as a significant moment for both the media industry and women’s development in Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Kano State the association commended the successful celebration of Galadanchi’s legacy, noting that her 62-year career in broadcasting has played a vital role in informing and inspiring communities while mentoring generations of media professionals.

Kano NAWOJ particularly highlighted the launch of the Hajiya Mariya Galadanchi Foundation, an initiative designed to support the education of young female journalists.

The association described the foundation as a forward-looking effort that will help nurture future women professionals in the media sector.

Speaking on the development, NAWOJ Kano Chairperson, Sayyadda Baijjah Nasir Kabara expressed enthusiasm over the initiative, noting that it aligns with the association’s commitment to empowering upcoming women journalists.

She also announced her personal financial support toward the foundation as part of efforts to ensure its success.

The association further appreciated the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for donating ₦10 million to the foundation, describing the contribution as a strong indication of the administration’s support for media development and women empowerment.

Kano NAWOJ emphasised that Galadanchi’s contributions to journalism and broadcasting will remain impactful for years to come, serving as a source of inspiration within the profession.

The event drew the attendance of notable personalities, including the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya media scholar Abdullah Uba Adam and Bala Muhammad alongside other prominent figures, veteran journalists, and stakeholders in the media industry.

“The association reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote the education, growth, and professional advancement of women journalists across the state and beyond”.
