The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has congratulated Comrade Hauwa Zahradden on her confirmation as the first female Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council.
Zahradden, who previously served as Assistant Secretary of the council, was confirmed to occupy the position following changes in the council’s leadership structure.

In a statement signed by the NAWOJ Kano Secretary, Comrade Maryam Muhammad Yakasai, and Chairperson, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, the association described the development as a landmark achievement for women journalists in the state.
NAWOJ commended the leadership of NUJ Kano, under Chairman Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, as well as the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for supporting women’s participation in leadership within the journalism profession.
The association said Zahradden’s emergence had demonstrated that female journalists could occupy strategic positions and make meaningful contributions to the development of the profession.

Speaking on the development, Kabara described the confirmation as a significant milestone and a source of pride for NAWOJ members and women journalists across Kano State.
She said, “The emergence of the first female Secretary of NUJ Kano is a positive step towards greater inclusion and participation of women in the leadership of our profession.”
According to her, Zahradden’s elevation would boost the confidence of female journalists and strengthen their sense of representation and belonging within the NUJ.
Kabara expressed confidence that the new secretary would deploy her experience, professionalism and commitment to contribute to the unity and advancement of journalism in Kano.
She also pledged NAWOJ Kano’s continued cooperation with the NUJ leadership, particularly in promoting journalists’ welfare, professional development and increased opportunities for women in leadership.

The association wished Zahradden a successful tenure and congratulated her on what it described as a historic achievement for women journalists in the state.
