Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the next gubernatorial election in the state.

The endorsement was announced during a large affirmation gathering held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, where party leaders, delegates, and supporters from all 44 local government areas converged to declare support for the governor’s second-term bid.

Despite a heavy rainfall that disrupted activities briefly, thousands of supporters remained at the venue, chanting slogans and celebrating throughout the exercise.

Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, formally moved the motion for Governor Yusuf’s adoption as the party’s consensus candidate, while Senator Kawu Sumaila seconded the proposal.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Barau said the governor’s achievements in critical sectors had earned him the confidence of party members and justified the call for continuity in governance.

Delegates at the event unanimously approved the motion amid loud applause from supporters.

Chairman of the Congress Committee, Muktari Shagari, later confirmed the endorsement and officially presented Governor Yusuf as the party’s preferred candidate for the forthcoming election.

stated that the consensus decision reflected the trust and confidence party members have in the governor’s administration and development programmes.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf thanked delegates and party supporters for the endorsement, promising to intensify efforts toward the development of Kano State.

The governor said his decision to seek another term was driven by his administration’s “Kano First” agenda, which focuses on accelerating infrastructure development and improving the welfare of residents.

He also praised the APC leadership for conducting what he described as a peaceful and well-organised consensus process, which received widespread support from stakeholders at the event.
