Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured families of military and police personnel নিহত in a recent attack in Kebbi State of the Federal Government’s continued support.

Shettima gave the assurance on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the state on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the killing of security officers and destruction in communities within Shanga Local Government Area.

During the visit, the Vice President conveyed the President’s sympathy to Governor Nasir Idris, the people of the state, and security agencies affected by the incident. He stressed that the sacrifices of fallen officers would not be forgotten, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of security personnel and their families.

Shettima also extended condolences over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, who reportedly passed away in Cairo, Egypt.

According to the Vice President, President Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to families of the deceased officers as well as communities displaced by the attack. He noted that steps were already being taken to ensure affected residents receive adequate support.

He expressed solidarity with the state government and people of Kebbi, offering prayers for the victims and asking for strength for their families to cope with the loss.

In his remarks, Governor Idris said security agencies in the state were working closely with authorities to address emerging threats, noting improvements in their response efforts despite recent challenges. He appreciated the Federal Government for sending a high-level delegation led by the Vice President to commiserate with the state.

The governor disclosed that the state government had provided financial assistance of N60 million to the families of the eleven slain officers. He added that displaced communities had been resettled, with measures put in place to enhance security and prevent further attacks.

Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Sami, called for peace and unity across the state and the country, while offering prayers for the victims.

The Vice President’s delegation included senior government officials such as the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, among others.
