The best-performing candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Daniella Owoeye Jesudunsin, has been awarded a ₦1 million scholarship for her outstanding academic achievement.
The scholarship was presented to the 16-year-old by Ekiti Parapo in Indiana, United States, following her record-breaking score of 372 out of 400 in the examination.
Daniella, who is from Erinmope-Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, is seeking admission to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Lagos.
Her UTME results showed that she scored 98 in English Language, 98 in Chemistry, 94 in Physics and 82 in Biology, making her the highest-scoring candidate in the 2026 examination.
Expressing appreciation for the recognition, Daniella described the scholarship presentation as a memorable occasion and thanked Ekiti Parapo in Indiana for acknowledging her efforts and encouraging her to pursue greater academic achievements.
She also expressed gratitude to her parents, relatives, friends and well-wishers, as well as the Obaleo of Erinmope-Ekiti, Oba Dr. Sunday Aikuirawo Aniyi Amoyimade Atayese I, and the President of Ekiti Parapo, Hon. Awoniyi, for their support and presence at the celebration.
Speaking about her academic success, Daniella attributed her performance to early preparation, consistency and disciplined study habits.
According to her, regular practice with past examination questions, computer-based test applications, online tutorials and study groups also played a key role in helping her achieve the remarkable score.
Her achievement has continued to attract commendations and support from individuals and organisations, with many celebrating her as a role model and source of inspiration to students across Nigeria.
