Former Big Brother Naija winner and actress, Mercy Eke, has opened up about the challenges that came with fame after winning the reality television show.
Eke made the revelation during a recent appearance on Toke Moments, hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa.
The reality star said life after the show was more difficult than she had anticipated, particularly because of the intense public attention that followed her victory.
According to her, although the fame significantly advanced her career, it also made it difficult for her to enjoy a private and normal life.
Reflecting on her relationships, Eke disclosed that finding a suitable partner has become increasingly difficult since she became a public figure.
She also revealed that she had previously been involved with men whom she financially supported.
“I regret going to Big Brother even though I love the benefits that come from it. I dey fall in love like mumu, now I said to myself that I want to marry, I want to marry, but it’s not easy,” she said.
The actress added, “I have dated guys that I have given a lot of money to, not one, not two, because they don’t have.”
Eke further explained that she eventually moved abroad in search of a fresh start and to escape some of the pressures associated with celebrity life.
She said the relocation came with its own challenges, as she had to adapt to a new lifestyle and different working environment.
The actress also spoke about the emotional demands of living in the public eye, claiming that celebrities often become targets for people who project their personal frustrations onto them.
Despite her reservations about participating in the reality show, Eke acknowledged that the platform had a major impact on her career and opened doors that have shaped her journey in the entertainment industry.
