The Kano State Government has rejected allegations made by Buba Galadima that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the state’s Department of State Services (DSS) director are suppressing opposition voices.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the government described the claims as “false, malicious, and politically driven”.

The government insisted that neither Yusuf nor his administration has directed security agencies to intimidate critics or opponents, saying the accusations were aimed at discrediting the governor and creating tension in the state.

According to the statement, Galadima’s remarks followed his removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic, a decision the government said was based on administrative considerations.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, but stressed that such rights do not extend to defamation or spreading misinformation.

The statement dismissed claims that the government controls federal security institutions, saying agencies like the DSS operate within their legal mandates.

The administration maintained that political opponents operate freely in Kano, with civic activities and media engagement proceeding without interference, describing Governor Yusuf’s leadership as “inclusive and guided by the rule of law”.
