Tears and grief enveloped Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
Family members, friends, sympathisers, fans and colleagues gathered in the actor’s hometown to pay their final respects as the burial rites were conducted.
Among those who attended the funeral at the deceased’s residence were his close associates and colleagues, including Yinka Quadri, Prince Jide Kosoko and Ireti Osayemi.
An Islamic cleric also addressed the gathering, offering prayers and words of counsel as the burial rites progressed.
The actor’s remains, wrapped in white clothing, were carried and buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling cancer. His daughter, Kira, announced his death during an Instagram Live session, while fellow actor Saidi Balogun also confirmed the development in a social media post.
His death has continued to attract tributes and reactions across the Nigerian film industry, with colleagues, fans and admirers mourning the passing of one of the notable figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
Hassan featured in numerous Nigerian films throughout his career and earned a reputation as one of the prominent actors in the Yoruba film industry.
As he was laid to rest in Ilaro, mourners gathered to bid a final farewell to the veteran actor whose death has left his family, colleagues, friends and fans in grief.
