Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation exercise was held at the APC headquarters in Bichi Local Government Area, where thousands of party supporters from the 13 local government areas of Kano North gathered to endorse his candidacy.
Party officials from the APC national headquarters and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise, which was conducted peacefully.

Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the senatorial primary, Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, formally asked party members to confirm Senator Barau as the party’s candidate, a request met with overwhelming approval from the crowd.
The Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Hon. Musa Yahaya, also sought members’ endorsement, which was unanimously granted.
Speaking after the exercise, the head of the INEC monitoring delegation, Abdulrahman Haruna, praised the orderly conduct of the process.
Kano State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, commended party members for maintaining peace and unity during the exercise.
The governor expressed optimism that APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba, and Senator Barau, would secure victory in the 2027 elections.
In his response, Senator Barau appreciated party faithful for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain quality representation for Kano North.
He also commended President Tinubu for his leadership and praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for ongoing developmental efforts in Kano State.
The senator “urged residents to remain loyal to the APC and support all party candidates in the forthcoming elections, stressing that continued backing for the ruling party would attract more development projects to the state”.
