Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has assured Nigerians that his administration remains focused on restoring peace and stability in Plateau State, expressing confidence that the state will overcome its recent security challenges.

The governor gave the assurance while receiving President Bola Tinubu during a visit to the state, describing the president’s presence as both timely and symbolic.

He said the visit came at a critical moment when  residents were seeking reassurance following the March 29th attack that claimed lives and disrupted communities.

Mutfwang acknowledged the pain of affected families but maintained that the incident would not derail the state’s progress.

He noted that despite inheriting a fragile security situation marked by insurgency and related threats, his administration has recorded improvements in security and begun attracting local and foreign investments, reflecting renewed confidence in Plateau.

The Governor commended security agencies for thwarting several attacks that often go unreported, while reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Armed Forces and the Police to address insecurity.

He disclosed that a Security Council meeting was convened immediately after the incident, leading to decisive measures aimed at reinforcing the state’s response to threats.

Stressing that unity among political and community leaders remains key to ending the cycle of violence and restoring Plateau’s image as a peaceful destination.

Mutfwang further noted that past administrations, including those of Joshua Dariye, Jonah David Jang and Simon Lalong had faced similar security challenges.

However, he expressed optimism that the current federal leadership is fostering greater cooperation among stakeholders.

In his remarks, former governor Jonah David Jang called on the president to convene a closed-door meeting with key stakeholders in Abuja to encourage frank discussions and lasting solutions.

He also cautioned against any attempts to undermine future elections, expressing confidence that such efforts would be resisted.
