The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council as part of preparations for the upcoming general elections.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani. According to the statement, the move is intended to allow members of the council who may wish to contest elective positions to do so.

“All commissioners have been directed to hand over their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries on or before April 3, 2026, to ensure continuity in governance”.

The dissolution marks the end of the current cabinet’s tenure.

Many of the outgoing commissioners played key roles in implementing policies and supporting the administration’s development agenda.

Governor Zulum expressed appreciation to the former council members for their service, noting their contributions to reconstruction efforts, resettlement programmes, and public service delivery, particularly in the face of ongoing security and humanitarian challenges.

He also wished them success in their future pursuits, including political ambitions, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sustaining development and good governance across the state.
