GovernorAbba Kabir Yusuf has directed the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources to immediately regulate sand mining activities around water treatment facilities across the state, citing risks to critical infrastructure and potable water supply.

The directive was issued during an inspection visit to the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, part of the governor’s ongoing tour of water facilities.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the move is aimed at protecting key installations from damage and ensuring uninterrupted water production.

Governor Yusuf warned that unregulated sand mining poses a significant threat to the functionality of treatment plants, potentially undermining government investments in the water sector.

He emphasized that such activities could disrupt water sources and compromise treatment processes if left unchecked.

BThe governor called for strict monitoring and enforcement of existing regulations to curb the activities of sand miners operating near these facilities.

He also urged relevant stakeholders to cooperate with the government in safeguarding public utilities.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving water supply, Yusuf said protecting water infrastructure remains essential to delivering clean and safe drinking water to residents across Kano State.
