Nigeria has reiterated its strong commitment to advancing opportunities for young people and women, with Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasizing the central role of youth in national development.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President highlighted that investing in young people remains a key priority for the administration.

He described the youth population as a driving force for transformation, noting that their contributions go far beyond numbers and must be fully harnessed for national growth.

Shettima also stressed the government’s intention to deepen collaboration with the United Nations to promote initiatives that support both youth and women across the country.

According to him, these groups form the foundation upon which Nigeria’s future progress depends.

Reaffirming the administration’s stance, he stated that President Tinubu is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering the younger generation.

He added that ongoing efforts are aimed at converting Nigeria’s growing population into a productive advantage that will boost economic and social development.

“To achieve these goals, the Vice President proposed the establishment of stronger institutional frameworks that would drive programmes for youth and women, in partnership with the United Nations and other stakeholders”.

Meanwhile, a senior United Nations official Dr Paullier, expressed appreciation for the engagement, describing Nigeria as a key player in global youth development efforts.

He noted that the UN has expanded its structures in recent years to better support young people worldwide, particularly in areas such as human rights, education, and skills development.

The official further explained that the UN delegation’s visit is intended to strengthen support for Nigeria’s development agenda.

He added that prioritizing youth in policymaking will accelerate innovation and sustainable growth, positioning the country on a stronger path to development.
