The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has called on government, institutions, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward empowering women and ensuring equal treatment and respect in all sectors of society.
In a statement issued to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, said this year’s theme “Give to Gain” highlights the importance of investing in women as a pathway to sustainable development and social progress.
She noted that empowering women through education, skills acquisition, economic opportunities, and leadership inclusion will not only improve the lives of women but also strengthen families, communities, and the nation at large.
The association urged governments at all levels, private organizations, and community leaders to create enabling environments where women are respected, valued, and given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.
NAWOJ Kano also emphasized the need for continuous advocacy for the rights, dignity, and welfare of women, while encouraging women themselves to remain resilient, hardworking, and supportive of one another.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible journalism that highlights issues affecting women and advocates policies that will advance gender equality and development in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.
