The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has officially extended an invitation to Governor Abba Yusuf, encouraging him to join the ruling party. The call comes amid reports of the governor’s planned defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The state APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Kano, describing the move as one driven by unity, reconciliation, and the collective interest of Kano State.
The APC is ready to receive Governor Abba Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can combine our strengths for the progress of the state,” Abbas said.
Governor Yusuf’s possible defection has created tensions within the NNPP, whose national leader and the governor’s political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly opposed to the move.
Abbas added that upon his formal entry, Governor Yusuf and other NNPP stalwarts would be received into the APC under the leadership of former national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collective responsibility.
The call for Governor Yusuf to join the APC aims to build a more united and prosperous Kano State,” he said.
The development is expected to reshape Kano’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, signalling the APC’s readiness to consolidate support in the state.
