The Kano State Government has announced strict guidelines for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain law and order across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the government received credible intelligence reports of plans by some individuals to disrupt the Sallah festivities.
He explained that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to preserving Kano’s cultural heritage but will not compromise on its responsibility to protect lives and property.
Following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders, the government approved specific arrangements for the celebrations.
According to the statement, the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be led by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, starting from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground and proceeding through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa within the Emir’s Palace.
The Hawan Nasarawa procession will hold in a modified format without horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended for this year in the interest of public safety.
The government also directed security agencies to strengthen surveillance and enforce compliance with the new measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the celebrations.
Residents were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security operatives, and avoid spreading unverified information, while continuing their normal activities peacefully throughout the festive period.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and hitch-free Sallah celebration and extended its goodwill message to Muslims in Kano and beyond.
